EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) is the electronic exchange of structured business documents between organisations and
trading partners. It provides the means to streamline and integrate your internal and external processes and offers extensive business benefits.
The EDI Process
EDI is the exchange of structured information, in a pre-defined format, as specified by the EDI Standards bodies. This standard format enables interpretation of
the information, irrespective of applications and operating systems.
The EDI sender and recipient need EDI enabling software, to convert data to and from defined EDI formats, so that each organisation's applications
are able to use the data:
The EDI process consists of 3 major components:
1. EDI Standards
The EDI enabling software converts the appropriate data into an EDI format, to the Standard agreed by the two organisations.
